Indian Railways has been a great unifier of the country, President Pranab Mukherjee said today.

He was talking to a group of probationer officers of Railway services, who had called upon him at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Congratulating them on their success in the competitive examination, Mukherjee said they are joining the great task of nation building by serving Indian Railways and they must dedicate their life and services to the cause of the country.

He said Indian Railways has been a great unifier of the country and they are fortunate to have the opportunity to serve this great organisation, a press release quoted the President as saying.

The group of 56 probationers officers were from Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) and Indian Railways Service of Stores (IRSS).

"Twenty-nine per cent of this group of probationers from seventeen states were women," the release said.
