An Indian seafarer has been killed and three others have been injured in an explosion on a ship at Al Hamriyah port in Dubai.

A tweet from the Indian mission in Dubai, retweeted by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, said the Indian seafarer died in the blast.

Two of the injured persons have been shifted to the Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi and another to Khalifa Hospital in Ajman, it said.

"We are closely monitoring the situation," it said.

The mission assured that rest of the people aboard other vessels at the port were safe.

The vessel was transporting diesel from the UAE to a foreign destination, the Gulf News reported, and firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to adjacent ships yesterday.

The report said 21 workers were on the vessel.
