The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and the University of Technology Sydney's (UTS') Faculty of Engineering and IT have extended research cooperation by establishing a new joint research cluster (JRC).
"The cluster's focus areas will include artificial intelligence (AI), character and video recognition, document analysis and biometrics," a statement said Tuesday.
UTS already conducts extensive research in these areas in Centre for Artificial Intelligence and School of Software. ISI has built strong expertise via research undertaken in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Unit.

* Wizikey secures Rs 2.5 cr funding from IAN
* Indian Angel Network (IAN) has invested Rs 2.5 crore in Wizikey, a tech-driven PR solutions start-up.
"IAN's investment in Wizikey marks a significant step towards transforming the Indian PR and social media industry, which is estimated to be valued at Rs 4,500 crore," a statement said Tuesday.
The funding round was led by IAN investors including Alok Mittal, Ambarish Raghuvanshi, and Saumya Meattle (Investor Director).
Other angels participating in the round include former Nasscom Chairan Raman Roy, Ajai Chowdhry (HCL co-founder) and Arun Duggal (ICRA Chairman).
The capital infusion will be used by Wizikey to further develop its product offerings and scaling it to cover multiple vernacular languages.
