A Pune-born computer geek will be the only Indian to take part in a major annual fitness modelling competition in London on Sunday.

Ranjit Menon has been shortlisted for the Miami Pro Universe Championship, among the biggest fitness modelling federations in the world.

The London-based IT professional will be competing against nearly 300 contenders to win the fitness model category.

"I work as a senior software consultant and take up modelling as a part time passion and profession. I wish to represent the Indian community," said Menon, who grew up in India.

Body-sculpting began as a hobby in his student days but he then began focusing on his IT career.

Soon after a major wrist surgery in February 2013 kept him away from the gym, he met an inspirational trainer who helped him train to be able to compete with world class fitness models.

"I gave my mother a promise to never touch any artificial supplements or steroids and I have kept up to the promise by building my body purely with hard work and fighting the hunger pangs and gastronomical urges," Menon said.
