Indian wins ICT Mountain Development Award

An Indian today won a mountain development award here for promoting innovations and good practices for environmental conservation in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region.

Jayprakash Panwar won the award along with Avinash Jha and Sibjan Chaulagain of Nepal, Suleman Mazhar of Pakistan and HELVETAS Swiss Inter-cooperation.

The award given by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) reflects the increasing importance of the potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in improving the lives and livelihoods of mountain communities, the Nepal-based body said in a statement.

The winners will receive USD 250 along with a certificate of recognition.

ICT Mountain Development Award is given by the Nepal-based International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
 

The award seeks to recognise ICT-enabled innovations, good practices, and applications that help promote mountain development and environmental conservation in the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region, the statement said.

The awards were presented in the presence of Mahabir Pun, a pioneering social entrepreneur and Magsaysay award recipient.
