In an innovative mix of adventure and patriotism, five Indian motorcycle enthusiasts today began their "Great Independence Day Ride" from Singapore, aiming to redefine freedom in terms of culture and friendship through a five-nation 5,000-km journey that will conclude in Mumbai.

The five, including a woman, kicked off their tour on four motorcycles from the Indian High Commission here, celebrating India's 70th Independence Day today.

They are accompanied by a support-service vehicle.

Vikram Mehta, Falguni Jasani, Ram Ithikkat, Nikhil Kashyap and Bhanu Pratap Singh, are professionals in various fields but they united for this exciting journey.

Indian High Commissioner to Singapore Vijay Thakur Singh wished them for the ride through exotic locations in Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, andfinally to India.

During the ride, dubbed 'The Great Independence Day Ride - 2016', they will cover 5,000 kilometres on the most-talked about Asian Highway that connects Southeast Asian countries.

The riders will be exploring, eating and delving into the cultures of their destinations and stay connected with other enthusiasts through biker-clubs in different countries and the loop of social media during the trip.

"This venture is an infant yet heady amalgam of travel and adventure, that aims to redefine freedom in terms of multiplicity of cultures, languages, tourism, customs, traditions, religions, travel, food and much more with an individual distinctiveness of friendship," they said in a statement.
