Indians shine at World Karate meet

The Indians put up an impressive show by bagging a number of medals on the second day of the 6th Karate-Do Gojukai World Championship here today

In the boys' 13 years and below category of the team kata technique, Ritik Mehta, Kavish Gandhi and Abhijit Nair won the gold medal to receive a warm round of applause from the home crowd, present at the NSCI stadium in Worli here.

India stole the show in the women's category of the team kumite technique as the host country's players won all three -- gold, silver and bronze -- in this technique.

Keyuri Patel won the gold, yesterday's bronze medal winner in the individual kata technique, Kashmira Choksi, won the silver, while Kinjal Vora took home the bronze medal.
 

India's Natalia and Sanaya won the bronze medal in the women's 18 years and below category of the kumite technique.

England's Cheryl and Lauren won the gold, whereas Australia's Bridget and Catherine won the silver medal in this category.

Having won their first gold medal in an international karate event, the three boys in the team kata technique said they were delighted at their achievement and also thanked their coaches Vispy Kapadia and Keyuri Patel for expert guidance.
