Power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) Chairman and Managing Director Atul Sobti today attributed the PSU's success to indigenisation of technologies.
"Indigenisation of leading technologies and new technology development have been two major factors for the success of BHEL. These have enabled BHEL to exhibit sustained growth and to face the onslaught of global competition all along its fifty years of journey," Sobti said at the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur.
He said traditionally the company has been a dominant player in the sub-critical thermal power plants in India with product offerings limited upto 500 MW, but they have progressively introduced 660 MW, 800 MW and 1,000 MW units on fuel efficient supercritical technology.
As a further commitment to increasing efficiency, BHEL is also working on indigenous development of India's first coal fired advanced ultra supercritical power plant with AGCAR and NTPC, the CMD said.
Recently, he said they indigenously developed fuel flexible supercritical boilers, which can operate and maintain steam generation in extreme cases of 100 per cent specified Indian coal as well as 100 per cent specified imported coal, one of the firsts in the Indian market.
