Started in the year 2004, "Exercise Nomadic Elephant 2012" is the eighth Indo-Mongolia joint military training, according to a Defence release.

"This training aims to modernise Mongolian defence establishment, train their defence personnel for serving in UN peacekeeping force in conflict areas and enhance interoperability between the two armies while carrying out counter insurgency/counter terrorism operations during peace keeping operations under UN mandate, anywhere in world", it said.

This would also enhance defence cooperation, understanding and synergy between the two armies and rekindle the centuries old relationship between the two nations, the statement added.
