"This appears to be a new strategy of Pakistan to push terrorists in the country," BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas said in a public meeting at Chachwal village, where the tunnel was detected on July 28.
The tunnel is an attack on the country's security, Manhas said, adding that he was surprised by the Centre's and the state government's "non-serious approach" to the matter.
He claimed that villagers in Chachwal and adjoining villages on the border were deprived of development due to the wrong policies of the state government.
"The state government should treat people residing in villages near the border as Residents of Backward Area and due benefits be extended to them," he said.
The BJP leader assured the locals that his party would raise their problems in the Parliament as well as in the state Assembly.
