Industries Minister Ramakant Goswami said the DDA notification will pave the way for proper redevelopment of the clusters.

"The notification has paved the way for proper redevelopment of 22 industrial clusters," he said.

Goswami said the Master Plan of Delhi 2001 was amended incorporating a provision that the areas with industrial concentration can be notified as industrial clusters for redevelopment.

Following a Supreme Court directive in 1996 to close down polluting industries in residential areas, Delhi Government had launched a scheme to enable the industrial units to relocate from residential and non-conforming areas to approved industrial areas.

However, infrastructure at the industrial clusters is in bad shape and Delhi Government had entrusted DSIIDC to improve the facilities there. To carry out the infrastructure development, the government had requested DDA to notify certain regulations.

Goswami said the industrial clusters were surveyed by the industries department and thereafter another survey was conducted by Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (DSIIDC) following which 22 clusters were identified for carrying out redevelopment. MORE
