Industrialists, film personalities among those owing Rs 5.64 cr for security cover

Some prominent industrialists, film personalities and a senior politician are among 62 persons who owe Rs 5.64 crore to the Mumbai police towards personal security, Maharashtra Assembly was informed here today.

"As of December 2015, there are 62 people whose combined outstanding towards security cover given to them is Rs 5.64 crore," Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, in a written reply to a query by Aslam Shaikh (Congress) and others.

The government has asked Mumbai Collector and suburban Collector to recover the amount, and timely follow-up is on, he said.

In reply to another query by Ajit Pawar (NCP) and others, Fadnavis, who holds the Home portfolio, said 163 police personnel in Mumbai died last year.
 

The state government is taking various steps to ensure good health of police personnel, the CM said.
