Industries violating pollution norms to face action: Kadam

Maharashtra Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam today said strict action would be taken against those industries in Chandrapur district which are violating pollution norms.

"It has come to the notice of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) that many of the industries (in Chandrapur) that violate pollution norms, chose to ignore the notices, issued frequently by the board in the past which would not be tolerated any more," Kadam told reporters here.

"Action will be taken against the industries in the district which are violating pollution norms by registering offences," he added.

According to Kadam, a senior Shiv Sena Minister, an action plan is being prepared for curbing pollution in Chandrapur and a flying squad comprising five officials would be formed to monitor the situation.
 

"These officials would undergo 15-day special training in Mumbai, for implementing the given tasks and a senior officer from MPCB would visit the place periodically to review the situation," he added.

Kadam, also said that no industry under the jurisdiction of municipal corporation or municipal council would be permitted to release its industrial waste into Wardha or Irai rivers, without effluent treatment, prior to the release.
