With the per capita consumption of plastics in Andhra Pradesh likely to reach more than double in next five years, the plastics industry today requested the government to expedite its process on setting up a 'Plastics Park' in the state akin to Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
"If the state has to retain its self-sufficiency, then it is critical that the development of proposed plastics park is expedited and is operational soon," the All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA) said here.
Addressing a press conference, Raju Desai, Chairman of Plastivision India 2013, being organised by AIPMA, said five plastic parks have been announced by the Centre in different parts of the country.

Andhra Pradesh Plastic Manufacturers Association President V Anil Reddy said there is a need for establishing a plastics park in AP on the lines of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
"We are requesting the government to at least provide minimum of 500 acres for the proposed plastics park. The process is underway to locate it. The APIIC has identified some land in Ranga Reddy district."
Desai said plastic prices have gone up by more than 20 per cent in the last three months owing to rupee depreciation against dollar and rise in crude oil prices.
The per capita plastic consumption in India is 8.5 kg as compared to 24 kg world average, while the per capita consumption is 100 kg per person in developed countries, he said.
Plastic is largely used in packing and pipes and it constitutes 50 per cent of demand, he said adding there are about 50,000 plastic manufacturers in the country and the current production is around 10 million tonnes and it is growing at 15-20 per cent per annum.
The AIPMA is organising Plastivision India 2013 at Mumbai from December 12-16.
