Infant found dead in pit

The body of an infant was found today in a 4-feet deep pit near Safdarjung Hospital in South Delhi, police said.

The age of the unidentified child has been estimated between 3-4 years and the body had injury marks, a senior police officer said.

The body was discovered by locals from a dry pit where two water pipelines intersect near Safdarjung Hospital.

"We have filed a case and started investigation. The body has been sent for post mortem examination to determine the cause of death," the officer said.

Police is questioning locals and a nearby slum dwellers to establish child's identity, they said adding, no lead has been found yet.
 

It is suspected that child was killed somewhere else and later his body was dumped in the pit, said the officer.
