A team of Gujarat Food and Drug Control Authority (GFDCA) today raided two manufacturing units of orthocare tools and seized low-quality materials of around Rs 2.06 lakh, a top official said.

"GFDCA raided two manufacturing units -- SCM Ortho- care private ltd and ZX Orthocare pvt ltd in Odhav GIDC area here and found them engaged in making low-quality tools like nails, plates and screws- and seized materials of about Rs 2.06 lakh," GFDCA Commissioner H G Koshia told PTI.

We have also seized six samples for testing and found that those units were running without valid drug licence and hence they were violating the drug and cosmetic norms, he said.

The articles seized were made of very light and low quality steel, which can be broken with little jerk or it can get rusted in three to four months, and using such tools is an offence as per norms, the GFDCA Commissioner added.

Koshia said a case will be registered in this connection.

These tools are used for purpose of implant in body in orthopaedic operations or also in a case like fractures in bones, he added.

Such tools are also used in critical bone surgeries and if low quality products are used, then it can cause harm to the patients, the Commissioner said.
