Gyan Books has launched a 27 volumes based on a survey of rural India.
A total of 27 volumes edited by N Seshagiri, Founder Director General, National Informatic Centre (NIC) encompasses the demography, economy and social structure of rural India.
The new "first of its kind" book that weighs 52 kgs is aimed at researchers, writers, scholars, administrators, planners, tourists, librarians etc.

"Integrated development of rural India is one of the challenging tasks before the Government. The block covers several gram panchayats, local administrative units at the village level. There are 6311 Community Development Blocks and 240,561 Gram Panchayats. As per census report, about 72.2 per cent of the population lives in 638,588 villages," says the author N Seshagiri.
"New challenging demands have emerged calling for more integrated rural information... The book contains relevant information about each Community Development block," he says.
The book contains brief introductions about the backward region grants fund, forest and reserved forest, annual rainfall, ground water, coastal villages, border villages, natural division administration, fair, ranking, gram panchayat, education, medical, drinking water, bank, electricity, recreation facilities, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, literacy rate, agriculture, source of irrigation, important villages, distribution of workers, religion, age-wise data, languages, disabled population.
The 27 volume book is distributed in six zones: South, East, West, North, Central and North east zones. Each block is available separately or in combination. Besides book also contains all the details about rural India which include all the 28 states and Union territories of India.
An Ebook in DVD with complete 27 volumes has also been launched to complement the book.
