With the Medical Council of India agreeing to the Odisha government's proposal to increase the number of MBBS seats in each government-run medical college from 150 to 250, their infrastructure would also be developed.

"Since MCI has agreed to increase the number of seats, infrastructure will be developed in all government medical colleges," Health and Family Welfare minister Damodar Rout said here today.

The government has made Rs 100 crore budgetary allocation for three medical colleges at Berhampur, Burla and Cuttack this year for development of infrastructure, he said.

The sanction would be made according to the requirements of individual colleges and the government also planned to increase faculty in view of the increase in number of seats, he said.

The minister was here to attend several programmes.
