"His condition is better after the bleeding in his lungs was stopped. The bullet is in the spinal cord," Apollo Hospital Superintendent Dr P D Sinha told PTI here tonight.
Doctors will decide when to operate on him, he added.
The youth, who was identified as Rohit Kumar and married a girl from another community about two months ago, was shot allegedly by his 16-year-old brother-in-law at Kalibari Chowk in Giridih town yesterday, according to Giridih Superintendent of Police A V Homkar.
Rohit, who was admitted to a nursing home in Giridih before being referred to a Dhanbad hospital, was admitted to the Apollo hospital here last night.
