Haryana's Opposition party INLD today attacked the treasury benches and staged a walk out from the House over the alleged objectionable remarks made by a BJP MP while accusing the state government of adopting double standards over this issue.

The INLD members also criticised the Khattar-led government over the growing problem of stray cattle in the state on the third day of the monsoon session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha.

During the discussion on a calling Attention Notice of INLD MLAs over the problem of stray cattle, INLD MLA Zakir Hussain proposed to bring a condemnation resolution against the MP for his alleged objectionable remarks regarding beef which was not supported by treasury benches.

Speaking on this matter, leader of opposition Abhay Chautala sought support from treasury benches for the condemnation resolution against MP.

"I want to know from treasury benches if they condemn remarks (of BJP MP) then you should pass the resolution. And if you oppose the same then you should hold discussion on the same," said Chautala.

However, BJP MLA Gian Chand Gupta said there cannot be any discussion on the matter pertaining to a person who is not present in the House.

Haryana Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rambilas Sharma said, "no member can read any newspaper cutting except in connection with the business of assembly," adding that the person in question has already withdrawn his statement.

Acknowledging that he knew the rules of the House, Abhay said, "it is the sentiments of people. A party (BJP) which talks maximum about cow protection should support it. If somebody speaks against cow, then we should condemn it."

Drawing comparison of this issue with the objectionable remarks made against Jain monk Tarun Sagar, Chautala said when an FIR can be lodged against a person who made objectionable remark against Jain monk then why no action can be taken against somebody who "abused a cow".

BJP MLA Subhash Barala said that the BJP MP in question had already expressed regret if his statement had hurt sentiments of anybody.

"I talked to him (BJP MP) today. He never made statement on cow," said Barala.

"I do not think you want cow to get protection. If somebody abuses and you are not going to oppose," Chautala said and after which INLD members staged a walk out.
