Main opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) today sought immediate removal of retired IPS officer PVS Rathi posted as Principal Advisor (Home and CID) to Haryana Chief Minister, accusing him of influencing the functioning of police department in the state.

In its complaint to Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath, INLD General Secretary R S Chaudhry said the continued presence of Rathi in the post since January 2012, after his retirement as Director General (CID) is inimical to the conduct of fair elections in Haryana.

"Rathi has not been holding any statutory post but in view of his close political proximity to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda he has been holding a position from where he is influencing the functioning of the Police Department," the INLD said in its complaint, copies of which were released to media here.

Rathi has been instrumental in postings and transfers of a very vital department that can influence the electoral process, the INLD said while urging the EC to seek the call detail records of land line of his office and residence as well as mobile for the past six months to ascertain the nature of his calls.

"It is obvious that with the presence of a regular Director General of Police and the Home Secretary too, the sensitive job of Home and CID has been entrusted to a retired person whose only claim to merit is his proximity to the Chief Minister," the INLD said.
