"On one hand, the Congress government keeps boasting about its welfare schemes for women and on the other it issues such Taliban-type diktats," INLD Secretary General and party MLA Ajay Singh Chautala told a news conference here.
Chautala said the state government had been issuing similar diktats pertaining to women in the past as well, which shows its "insensitivity" towards them.
"Recently, the government banned recruitment of pregnant women as government teachers and then soon beat a hasty retreat, rolling back its order. Now, they have come with this dress code order....They talk of their committment to 50 per cent reservation to women and then come with such orders trying to supress a woman's freedom," he said, adding INLD demands such order be immediately taken back.
The Department's order of April 18 had asked its employees to wear "decent" clothes at work prohibiting use of various types of outfits including jeans and T-shirts.
The order said it has been observed that some officials (both males and female) are coming to office in jeans/T-shirts/Western dresses "which sometime not only look awkward but are also in contravention of the government rules".
