The opposition INLD today staged rallies in different parts of Haryana demanding prompt payment to farmers for procurement of their wheat by various agencies during the ongoing Rabi marketing season.

The party also demanded expeditious lifting of the wheat lying in grain markets as its activists took out rallies at Thanesar and other places.

The party favoured a bonus of Rs 250 per quintal of wheat to farmers, state INLD chief Ashok Arora said.

Dhushyant Chautala, grandson of INLD chief O P Chautala, led the demonstrators at Sirsa.

In Pehowa, INLD workers and traders demonstrated in front of market committee offices.

"A huge quantity of wheat is lying in Mandis. The state government is neither lifting it nor paying to farmers," said Arora.

Other INLD leaders alleged the government was not paying the production cost of crops to farmers.
