Some non-NDA parties like INLD and TRS today slammed Congress for disrupting Parliament all through the Monsoon session and backed the government over the controversy surrounding External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in connection with Lalit Modi.
Participating in a debate on Adjournment Motion in Lok Sabha, INLD member Dushyant Singh Chautala was critical of the paralysing of Parliament, saying it prevented MPs from raising significant issues.
He said while Lalit Modi issue was being discussed in the House, land deals in Haryana done during the Congress party's rule in the state should also be discussed, an apparent reference to Robert Vadra's deals.
He noted that the NDA government had initiated action to bring back Lalit Modi and said he would be brought home like gangster Abu Salem was from Portugal about 13 years back.
TRS too was not in favour of the adjournment motion saying the House had already been disrupted for so many days and many legislations could not be passed.
Besides them, NDA allies also backed the government. Shivsena MP Anandrao Adsul attacked the Congress for disrupting the House.
"Does she have any FIR, CBI or CVC note against her. She gave a statement, rather a strong statement," he said, adding that even their party had disrupted the House because there was a CAG report on coal and sprectrum scam.
Other NDA allies -- the Apna Dal, Shiromani Akali Dal -- too supported Swaraj over the adjournment motion.
However, opposition parties the CPM, NCP, the AAP, MIM supported the adjournment motion.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not showing up in the House during the debate, MIM MP Owassuddin said it was head of the government who should had been defending the minister (Swaraj) rather leaving it to herself.
As the debate began, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan asked if Lalit Modi could be called a "fugitive" to which Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said he was not a fugitive during the UPA rule.
No non-bailable warrant was issued against him when the UPA was in power and one was issued only last week, he said.
"So today, he is (fugitive)," Mahajan said.
