He was attacked with sharp-edged weapons and even two police constables on guard were beaten up when they resisted, they said.
The injured inmate, identified as Devinder Singh of Daudhar village, was rushed to Moga hospital in a serious condition.
The persons who attacked managed to escape in three vehicles after the incident. Police has registered a case against the accused as one of the accused was identified by the inmate as Deepa Singh of Jagraon.
The injured prisoner was only four days back shifted from Faridkot central jail where a clash between two groups occurred and one jail inmate also from the Daudhar village was injured seriously.
