A 30-year-old inmate of Krishnanagar correctional home in Nadia died today due to sickness, police said.
Prakash Bagh, a resident of Shimultala, was arrested on rape charges, they said.
According to sources, he was beaten up by some people on June 16 following the alleged crime after which he was sent to Shaktinagar hospital. He was later arrested on July 19 and sent to the correctional home.
He fell ill today and died on way to hospital, police said.
"He was beaten up by public and spent some days in hospital before he was taken to the correctional home. He fell ill and died on way to hospital," they said.
