After the missing report of the 33-year-old woman who has filed a complaint of rape against self-proclaimed godman Asaram, from her house in Surat, police authorities today ordered inquiry against four constables.

"We have initiated inquiry against the four constables who were on duty to provide protection to the victim," Surat Deputy Commissioner of Police Pradip Sejul said.

These policemen did not inform the superior officials when the woman told them that she wanted to attend a wedding in Amroli area in Surat and did not want protection, he said.

"Had they informed the superiors, they would have been directed to escort her nonetheless," he said.

Police realised that she had been missing only on December 18.

Before disappearing, the woman had applied to the court saying that she wanted to change her statement recorded before the Magistrate. But the Gandhinagar Court rejected the plea.

Last year, the woman had filed a police complaint alleging that Asaram sexually assaulted her many times between 1997 and 2006 when she was staying at his ashram.

Her younger sister has levelled rape accusation against Asaram's son Narayan Sai. Asaram is currently lodged in a Rajasthan jail in another rape case.
