Meghalaya Home Minister Roshan Warjri today said that an inquiry had been initiated after a case was registered against unknown persons who burnt arecanut and betel leaf plantation along the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills district.
"As soon as the case was registered, an inquiry into the incident was immediately ordered and the report is being awaited," Warjri informed the Assembly after Leader of Opposition moved a call attention motion on the incident.
Criminal gangs from across the border had crossed over to Meghalaya and burnt down arecanut, betel leaf, black pepper plantations in an area measuring more than two square kilometres last week damaging crops worth over Rs 10 lakh.
