"There is massive corruption and irregularities in implementing Nirmal Gram Programme to ensure sanitation facilities in rural areas, besides alternative schooling under Sishu Shiksha Karmasuchi(SSK) and Madhyamik Shiksha Karmasuchi (MSK), during the time of former Panchayat Minister Surjya Kanta Mishra under LF rule," state's Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee said here.

Mukherjee said that the terms and condition of the probe panel would be finalised tomorrow and the inquiry would be completed as early as possible.

Even as the Nirmal Gram Puraskar was a comprehensive programme to ensure sanitation facilities in rural areas, there were many flaws in implementing it properly with the funds allocated by the Centre, Mukherje said.

Simultaneously, alternative schooling programmes under SSK and MSK schemes were also not implemented properly with the state funds worth Rs 55 crore, he alleged.

The probe panel would inquire into the lapses in implementing the programmes, besides bringing out in detail the utilisation of fund, Mukherjee said.

Mukherjee also said that in a letter Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has asked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to increase women's participation in Central programme of MGNREGA. (More)
