The activists of the Indian National Students Organisation (INSO), the students' wing of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), today locked the main gates of the Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) and the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), demanding students' union elections in the state at the earliest.

INLD MP Dushyant Chautala staged a dharna in front of the main gate of the GJUST, along with the INSO members and other students.

Earlier, he addressed the students of the two institutes in front of gate number three of the HAU.

A large number of students also staged a protest outside the main gate of the HAU after locking it.

Chautala said the INSO was fighting to ensure that students' union elections were held in Haryana, while alleging that the BJP government in the state was not taking it seriously, though the party had promised in its poll manifesto that it would resume the practice of conducting students' body polls.

"The (Manohar Lal) Khattar government is adopting an indifferent attitude towards the students' demands," the MP alleged.
