Inspector arrested in 2012 brothers' death case

A suspended police Inspector was today arrested for alleged abetment of suicide in connection with the death of two brothers in 2012.

Inspector Tarique Ahmad was the IIC of Balasore town police station when the brothers, S K Sadique and S K Sabir of Pathan Mahalla, against whom arrest warrants were issued, allegedly committed suicide by setting themselves afire here on the night of November 25, 2012.

The duo doused themselves with kerosene and set themselves on fire when police went to nab them.

They succumbed to their injuries later.

The brothers were wanted in a petty case, the family members had alleged the duo set themselves on fire as the police forcibly entered their house.
 

The family members had prayed for an impartial inquiry into the whole incident and the case was referred to the Crime Branch for investigation.

Ahmad was subsequently suspended and was wanted by the Crime Branch for a probe, which he was avoiding.

Today he was arrested from his residence at Khurda and forwarded to the SDJM court in Balasore for trial.

SDJM Balasore, Minashki Priyadarsini, rejected Ahmad's bail plea, against whom a case has been made under relevant sections of the IPC.

He was sent to 14-days judicial custody.
