A police inspector here was today booked for allegedly framing and arresting four 'innocent' Dalits in a double murder case, police said.

District Police registered the case against the accused Inspector Selvam under the SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities act) for implicating four Dalits of Varthagareddipatti in the killing of two persons in October, 2013.

Selvam had registered the case against the four when he was Inspector-incharge of Thattaparai police station and it came to light when the regular inspector came to the station.

The four Dalits had moved Madras High Court claiming they were innocent following which the court had ordered re-investigation.

It was then found that the four were indeed innocent and 12 others were booked on April 22 last in connection with the murder. Ten persons have been arrested while two others were absconding, police said.
