Two police officials were today suspended for alleged negligence in handling a complaint about a missing daily wage worker who was later found murdered.

DIG (Madurai Range) Anand Kumar Somani ordered the suspension of Melur Inspector and Keelavalavu Sub-Inspector for not registering a case in time on the complaint, DSP Mangaleshwaran said.

48-year old Aiyappan, a daily wage worker staying in Thaniyamangalam village near Melur, went missing from June 4 and his wife lodged a complaint with Keelavalavu police on June 7. But a case was registered only on June 9.

One Mathivann yesterday surrendered in a court here and told the magistrate that he had killed Aiyappan and threw the body in a quarry in Sivaganga district, which has since been recovered.

In view of this, Inspector Kumaravel Pandiyan and SI Dhayalan were suspended for negligence in work.
