A police inspector, arrested after the jeep driven by him fatally knocked down a woman last week, has been suspended, a senior police official said today.
Inspector Ramaandavar of Bommidi station in neighbouring Dharmapuri District had been suspended for using the jeep without permission to travel outside his jurisdiction and his involvement in the accident in which 46-year-old Gunavathy died and two others were injured, Salem Range DIG Nagarajan said.
The mishap occurred on May 27 when the jeep driven by Ramaandavar hit the rear side of the two-wheeler in which the deceased, her brother and son were returning here.
Following protests by the family of the deceased, the inspector had been arrested and a case has been registered against him under section 304 A of IPC (Causing death by negligence).
