A Haryana police inspector was on Thursday suspended for allegedly trying to extort money from the owner of a beauty parlour in Panchkula and a home guard jawan, accused of stalking a woman employee of the salon, has been arrested, an official said.
The Haryana police has also ordered a probe against the two police officials attached to the Mansa Devi Complex police station in Panchkula, he said.
The police station's SHO, Inspector Ravi Kant, has been suspended and transferred to the police lines while Home Guard jawan Jashan Pal has been arrested, the state police spokesperson said here.
A case was registered on the complaint by the Panchkula salon owner, who had also given to the police the CCTV camera footage of the parlour, in which Pal was seen stalking a woman employee and demanding protection money on behalf of the SHO, the police spokesperson added.
Asked about the incident, Home Minister Anil Vij, however, had told reporters here earlier in the day that the complainant woman has not backed her statement before a magistrate, but despite this, a thorough inquiry is being conducted into the case and the CCTV footage is also being examined.
Director General of Police Manoj Yadava has ordered an inquiry by Bharti Arora, Inspector General of Police to verify fairness and objectivity of the investigation conducted by Panchkula Police in the matter, the police spokesman said in a statement.
