"Power Development Department (PDD) should install meters at distribution stations to check power consumed in a particular area," SRS state president Rajiv Mahajan told reporters.

"If revenue realisation from that area is according to the meter reading at the station, then there should be no power curtailment in that area," he said.

"If revenue realisation from any particular area is less than the meter reading, PDD employees then should check the power theft in that area," he added while seeking regular supply in areas where revenue was according to the meter reading at the station.

Asking people to stop paying bills till they don't get uninterrupted power supply, he also spoke out against the department's reported suggestion to consumers to increase the power load for getting regular supply.

Blaming the PDD for low voltage, unscheduled power cuts and alleged power theft, Mahajan said there is no logic behind such an appeal as people pay electricity bills as per meter reading.

He also asked, when the local industry at present was allegedly in doldrums due to the power scenario, then "how will (incoming) national and international companies survive?"
