In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu expressed anguish over the "exodus" of Northeasterners from cities like Bangalore and Mysore "for want of security to their lives."

"Promoting unity among all Indian citizens and ensuring law and order and peace are the responsibility of governments. The incessant violence in Assam has led to anxiety and insecurity among citizens. This situation has obviously arisen due to failure of governments to anticipate trouble in advance and taking preventive steps," the former chief minister's letter said.

It was a matter of grave concern that citizens have to run away to their home states from other parts of the country for want of security to their lives, .

"I request you to take immediate steps to maintain law and order as well as restore peace so that the affected people get confidence to live in places where they work," Chandrababu said in his letter.
