Institute asks students to pay under free laptop scheme

The Director and the Registrar of a private institute here were today taken into police custody after students alleged that Rs 1000 each was collected by the authorities under the free laptop scheme of UP government.

"As per the scheme, students of a private institute in Partapur area here were to receive laptops today at a function when they lodged a protest against authorities alleging that Rs 1000 was collected from each student for the laptops," Superintendent of Police (City) Om Prakash said.

Hearing the complaints, District Magistrate Navdeep Rinva, who was chief guest at the function, instructed the police to take the institute's director and registrar into custody.
 

A case has been registered and investigations are on, the SP said.
