As part of security measures ahead of Independence day celebrations, sleuths of the Intelligence Bureau and 'Q' branch of Tamil Nadu police today questioned 19 refugees from Myanmar, including 11 women, who arrived here on September 12 last in search of a livelihood.

Local mosque Jamad officials informed police about the arrival of the refugees here from North India.

Police officials, who questioned them, said the refugees had proper documents.

They had come to India in 2010 and had visited various places, including Jammu and Kashmir, and were looking for jobs since then, a refugee Abdul Rahman said.

He also urged the government to help them.
