Of a list of important government assets, the Main Secretariat building of the Meghalaya government here have been listed as a "high risk" government infrastructure that could face possible attacks from the GNLA, the outlawed militant organisation, sources said.
Intelligence inputs received by the police indicates that the main secretariat is under threat from the GNLA who may carry out attacks, they said..
Security in the secretariat has been tightened and entry of vehicles into the parking lot of the secretariat will also be regulated by issuing of car passes to government officials, sources said.
Government offices in the Garo Hills region where the GNLA is active have also been warned of attacks from the outfit. The offices of the Deputy Commissioners of the three districts in the Garo Hills have been intimated of the threat inputs, sources said.
Meanwhile, the 144 hours (six days) bandh since Monday called by the GNLA in the Garo Hills region has entered the fourth day today.
The GNLA had last week called a bandh at Ampati and Selsella, the home constituencies of the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Leader of Opposition Conrad K Sangma respectively demanding halt of counter insurgency operations against the outfit in the Garo Hills region. PTI JOP RG
