Intense cold wave continues in Himachal Pradesh

The intense cold wave conditions continued unabated in Himachal Pradesh today as high altitude tribal areas witnessed another spell of light snowfall, causing a marginal dip in mercury.

The Rohtang Pass, Mari, Koksar, Keylong and Gondla received 10 cm, 8 cm, 5 cm , 5 cm and 2 cm snowfall, respectively.

Strong velocity icy winds swept the region and minimum temperatures stayed 10 to 16 degrees Celsius below freezing point in high altitude tribal areas.

The mercury dipped to minus 3.3 degrees Celsius at Keylong, while Kalpa recorded a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius.

However, the mercury increased marginally in mid and lower hills, and Manali recorded a low of 5.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Srinagar 6.6 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar and Solan 7.0 degrees Celsius each, Una 7.6 degrees Celsius, Shimla, Palampur and Dharamsala 8.6 degrees Celsius, 8.7 degrees Celsius and 8.8 degrees Celsius respectively and Nahan 8.9 degrees Celsius.
 

The maximum temperatures rose marginally and Una was hottest in the region with a high of 27.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhuntar24.0 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar 23.2 degrees Celsius, Solan 22.6 degrees Celsius, Nahan 20.7 degrees Celsius, Dharamshala 18.6 degrees Celsius, Shimla 18.0 degrees Celsius, Kalpa 7.0 degrees Celsius and Keylong 3.4 degrees Celsius.

The local MeT office has predicted rains or snow in higher hills for three days from December 23 and dry weather in rest of the state for the next six days.
