Inter-caste marriage leads to clash

: An inter-caste marriage led to a clash between two Hindu communities, during which two houses were damaged and some vehicles torched at Valapadi, about 65 km from here, police said.

They said the couple had got married recently and had approached police yesterday seeking protection from their parents and relatives for alleged threats.

Police said the parents of the couple were called for counselling, which went on till late in the night. At around midnight, members of one community hurled petrol bombs at the homes of the other community in Somammempatty village, destroying two huts and damaging vehicles parked outside, police said.
 

Nine persons have been arested in connection with the clashes

Salem range DIG Vidya Kulkarni and Superintendent of Police S Subbulakshmi visited the village with a posse of police personnel.
