An inter-ministerial committee has been formed to review the natioal policy on occupational safety at workplaces and will submit its report by September.

"Government declared the national policy on occupational safety at workplace in 2009. Since then many developments have taken place in science, technology, trade, commerce, economy and environment. Hence a need was felt to review the policy," Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya told PTI.

When asked about the time the panel will take to submit the review report, the Minister said it will take about 4-5 months.

Earlier, speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the National Safety Council of India (NSCI), Dattatreya said government has been committed to the safety and welfare of the working class.

"As founding member of International Labour Organisation (ILO), we have contributed immensely in the formulation and implementation of labour standards. So far we have ratified 43 conventions of the ILO," he added.

India is also a signatory of the Seoul Declaration in 2008, he said.
