An inter-religious couple today moved the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court seeking protection from activists of a right-wing group and a police officer who are allegedly opposed to their marriage.
The court issued notices to the local police as well as the state's home department.
Mohd Arif and his wife Monica Ingle said in the petition that they were in love and got married on August 17, 2017.

Both are adults and had submitted letters to the Nagpur police commissioner and the local Imambada police station informing that they were marrying of their own will while their families were opposed to it, said their lawyer Vilas Dongre.
Some activists of Bajrang Dal, with the help of an officer of Imambada police station, were harassing the couple, the advocate added.
A bench of Justices Vasanti Naik and Muralidhar Giratkar today issued notices to the respondents, including the Principal Secretary (Home) Maharashtra, Nagpur police commissioner and two officers of Imambada police station, seeking their replies by September 13, Dongre said.
