Shooting as a sport discipline has received a new lease of life in Punjab with Rs 10 lakh prize money being awarded to winners at the 14th Punjab Rifle Shooting Association (PRSA) inter school competition which concluded here today.
The decision to award prize money of Rs 21,000, Rs 14,000 and Rs 7,000 to the gold, silver and bronze medallists at the inter school championship is part of the new PRSA president and Punjab cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia's plan to give a boost to shooting at the school level.
Majithia had been unanimously elected president of the PRSA a few months back.

Majithia, who presided over the concluding function of the inter school shooting championship here, said the PRSA would now follow up with the hosting of the Punjab State Open Shooting championship soon.
He said besides this world class shooting ranges would be established at Ludhiana, Amritsar, Mohali and Bathinda.
He said basic shooting ranges would simultaneously be set up at all district headquarters.
He said 'A' class jobs had also been provided to shooters who had excelled in the sport and that the sport budget had also been increased from Rs 12 crore to Rs 142 crore in 2013-14.
The event also witnessed international shooter and Khel Ratna awarded Ronjan Sodhi interacting with the participants.
