Inter-state chain snatching racket busted; seven arrested

Police today claimed to have busted an interstate chain snatching racket and arrested seven people, including a woman.

Three country made pistols, six live cartridges and three knives have been recovered from them, SP City Sravan Kumar Singh said.

The racket was busted late last evening near Chamunda road under the Highway Police Station, Singh said.

"The gang was planning to commit a robbery when the police acting on a tip-off busted them," he said.

Six members of the gang, including the woman, are from Haryana, while one is from Rajasthan, he said.

The gang has confessed to looting chains in crowded places such as the Kumbh of Nashik, Allababad, Haridwar, and at other fairs, he added.
 

They have also confessed to four chain snatching last week in Kokilavan under the Kosi Kalan police station here.

The gang members have been arrested, and cases have been registered against them, he added.
