An alleged inter-state robber, who had a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head and was also the kingpin in a Rs 37.50 lakh cash van heist in August this year, has been arrested, police said today.
Harun Pasha, alias Salim alias Sonu (37), a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended on Wednesday by the Special Cell of Delhi police from near a flyover of Anand Vihar Railway Station.
"We have recovered a country-made pistol of 315 bore with 5 live cartridges. He is involved in 16 cases of attempt to murder, robbery, extortion, Arms Act, theft and snatching in Delhi and UP. He was also booked under the Gangster Act of UP.
A reward of Rs 50,000 had been declared by Delhi Police for his arrest. He is wanted in a sensational case of robbery of Rs 37.50 lakh cash from an ATM van from Mansarovar Park area on August 2. He was released on bail in various cases but was not appearing in concerned courts," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
Information was received that Pasha is active in the area of Delhi and NCR. Both human and technical surveillance was mounted to trace his whereabouts, police said.
On Wednesday, a specific information that Pasha would come near the flyover of Anand Vihar Railway Station to meet his associates. A trap was laid and at about 05:10 PM, Pasha was apprehended. A country made pistol of 315 bore with five live cartridges were recovered from his possession, said Yadav.
The modus operandi of Pasha's gang is that they steal two wheelers/four wheelers and use them to commit highway robberies and other offences. They target rich shopowners carrying cash and valuables at gun point.
Whenever they were arrested, they gave the fictitious identity and fake addresses so that their previous involvements are not known to investigating agencies, police said.
