As many as 1800 sports personnel and athletics including 400 women players, representing six zones of Jammu and Kashmir Police are participating in the 4-day long tournament, which was declared open by DGP Kuldeep Khoda.
Addressing the inaugural function, the Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda said that the tournament is an annual event in which sports personnel from all wings of the organisation viz Armed, Auxiliary, Civil Defence, SDRF, CID, Telecom, Crime, Traffic, Security, SSG, Railways, Kashmir, Jammu and Training Zones, would be participating to excel their talent in varied disciplines including basket ball, volley ball, foot ball, hand ball, tug of war, boxing, wrestling, weight lifting, shooting, hockey, kabbadi, archery, Kho-kho, marathon.
Shot put, hammer throw, javelin throw, discuss throw, long jump and high jump. Besides, sports persons from officer ranks of the different zones participate in badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and shooting, he added.
Giving further details, Khoda said that tournament is being played at different venues including Gulshan Ground, Jammu University ground, District Police Lines, Officers Mess, Gulshan Ground and CTC Sunjwan.
All the events of the tournament are being played on knock out basis as per the rules laid down by All India Police Sports Control Board.
Dwelling on the objectives of the tournament, the DGP said that the event is organized with the aim to develop spirit of comradeship and discipline among the youth within the department. (more) PTI AB
