The Madras High Court has granted interim stay on screening of Tamil film 'Neram' through satellite television broadcast or through any other form following an application filed by Sun TV Network Limited.

"There is a prima facie case made out and the balance of convenience is also in favour of the applicant. I find it just and reasonable to grant interim injunction. Accordingly, there shall be an order of interim injuction for a period of two weeks," Justice S.Tamilvanan said in his order.

According to Sun TV Network Limited, they got the copyright for the film from M/s.Winner Bulls Films on paying Rs. 1,20,00,000. The film, starring Nivin Pauly and Nasria Nazim, was exhibited in a Qatar Airways Flight illegally, they charged.

Winner Bulls Films had executed an agreement for 99 years with all rights to Sun TV, they said.

It has come to the notice of Sun TV that the rights for exhibition in the flights were executed by Winner Bulls Films to Inflight Productions Limited, the company said.

Senior Counsel Vijayanarayanan, who appeared on behalf of Sun TV, argued that as per the agreement between Winner Bulls Films and Sun TV, the former has no right to further assign the right to any other parties, since exclusive right was already given in favour of Sun TV.

The judge granted interim stay on the screening of the film through satellite television broadcast or through any other form and ordered issue of notice to the respondents.
