A four-day international conference on advances in polymer science and new generation technologies, 'MACRO 2017', began at nearby Kovalam today. Inaugurating the event, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre director Dr K Sivan said the conference is a platform for exchanging knowledge in the area of polymer science and technology for the benefit of common man. He also said large number of polymer subsystems are used in space research around the globe.
Prof. S. Ramakrishnan, President, Society for Polymer Science India, Dr A Ajayghosh, Director, NIIST and Dr. V.K. Dadhwal, Director, IIST and other eminent polymer scientists from India and abroad were present at the inaugural function. Two memorial lectures on "Precision Polymerization and synthesis" by Dr. Mitsuo Sawamoto, Japan and Dr. Sadhan C. Jana, USA on "Changing landscape in polymerization research" were delivered during the event.
Renowned nano technologist Dr Sumio Ijima, Japan would deliver the keynote address on "one dimensional nano-materials" during the conference.
